Across the Years 72/48/24-Hour Footrace 27th Running Katrina Relief 12-Hour Run Results |

On Saturday, September 4, 2005, Geri
Kilgariff and Nardini Manor presented a repeat of what
last year was called the Hotfoot Hamster, a
12-hour night run. Because of the recent hurricane Katrina
disaster, the run was renamed. Contributions were collected to
help with the relief effort. Mark Henderson went out at a blistering pace and held on to the end to be the first ever to go over 100 kilometers in 12 hours at our summer event — not an easy thing to do in the Arizona summer heat. And to top that, it wasn't even a "dry heat," as a monsoon storm blew in right about the same time the run got started. (Another week or two of bad weather and things really start cooling off. Javelina should be nice weather.) Mark is like the energizer bunny that someone wound up too tight. He kept us all smiling and laughing through the night. The Coury boys kept us entertained as well. Towards the end of the run two of them started going back and forth trying to have the fastest lap. Nick beat out Nathan at the very end of the run with a 1:33 lap time (on a 500 meter loop). We're looking forward to watching these boys at this years ATY. Should be fun. We're really sorry that we didn't get the "jammie cam" up and going but we did try. We're still stuck with dial up out here and because of this we simply couldn't make the camera work properly. We're not going to give up though and hope to have have something available for the Across The Years Run on New Years. We've already received a lot of donations for the Katrina Relief Fund and more is still coming in. Tom Crull has been in contact with Dr. Tyler Curiel, and he wanted everyone on the list to know that Tyler truly appreciates all the support. The biggest surprise so far was a $500 donation from the H.U.R.T. 100 group. These guys are awesome and in my opinion have the best kept secret going over there in Hawaii. Thanks again John, PJ and the rest of the H.U.R.T group. It was really nice seeing all the familiar faces as well as meeting some really cool new ones. — Rodger Wrublik
